Pride

I was a senior in high school on September 11, 2001. We were at an early morning rehearsal for the play West Side Story when our musical director, Bonnie Johnson, came in and broke the news to us.

It was in that moment that our childhood innocence was taken from us.

We were filled with thoughts of fear, hate and war. Osama Bin Laden was the leader of Al Qaeda, the terrorist groups that executed the 9/11 attacks and almost immediately become Public Enemy #1 and the face of blame for the greatest attack on US soil in history.

After the attacks President Bush said "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail." It took ten years to find Bin Laden, but we did it. While I know that this does not bring the end of a war that has cost us so many American, and foreign, lives, it brings some sort of closure to me.

I feel proud to live in a country that doesn't back down out of fatigue or fear.

Where were you on September 11, 2001?

I was right there with you. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. When I was teaching, it always shocked me that some of my students were too young to really remember it. It was a life-defining moment for me.

A day that I will never forget. I was taking Court and Alyssa to school at Creekside Elementary and I heard the news on the radio. As soon as I got home I ran and told Boyd and then turned on the TV hoping that the news wasn't true. Unfortunately it was and thus began the toughest years of Pres. Bush's leadership.

I remember getting ready to leave for school, and seeing the towers on my parent's tv. Initial thought was that it was an accident. Not until I was in first period did I find out what was really happening. I sort of remember it as being a really quiet day at school.

It was Homecoming week. Remember the parade was cancelled. At the dance, they played, "I'm proud to be an American." And we all held hands in a circle. It sounds corny now, but it was really moving then.

I didn't realize that happened at the dance. I thought I went, but maybe I didn't??? I don't think it's corny. I think it's awesome. It was very solemn.

I have to smile because I was young enough that I didn't even know what the Pentigon was..... I wasn't super smart in the polical side of life.....I just kept thinking about shapes and my stupid math class.....
I was in the bathroom doing my hair when my mom answered the phone and was talking to her sister and turned on the news.
I saw the second plane hit the towers live.... CRAZY!!
the news that we killed the evil man....I wont ever forget it.... we were driving home from your house :) and It was a random text i got. I'm Proud to be an american!
